Plot
Just released from school, the second Lieutenant of the red Army Ivlev arrives for service in Berlin a few days before the surrender of Germany in the great Patriotic war. In the ruined city fighting soldiers find a pregnant German woman, and part of the command decides to help her get to the hospital. Lieutenant Ivlev is instructed to accompany this woman to the rear, giving him a driver and a shell-shocked soldier, who also needs to be sent to the hospital. Thus senior officers want to protect the Lieutenant from possible death in Berlin at the very end of the war.
As a result, who became a completely different person, the grown-up protagonist, along with the driver he met on the way-a soldier of the American army, help the German woman, delivering her to a safe place. The war ends, marked by the birth of a baby in a new, peaceful world. The final shot-a newborn pees on a pile of now unnecessary, discarded weapons.
